BORN IN 1920, SHE LIVED THROUGH WORLD WAR II AND MANY OTHER SIGNIFICANT WORLD EVENTS.

Ms. Philomen Louisien celebrated her centennial on July 25 with family and friends in the community of Desruisseaux.

Ms. Louisien, full of wit and energy, is loved by all in the community and continues to be a fixture there. She has many stories of life in Saint Lucia since 1920, having lived through World War II and many other significant world events which affected day to day living. She remembers life being quite different from how it is today.

She was well known as being the best farine maker in Desruisseaux, and took pride being a farmer. She is a dedicated mother of 11 children, 82 grandchildren and 96 great grandchildren, who play an active part in her life. She is affectionately and respectfully known as 'mum' in the community, as she selflessly shares with passersby and always has an encouraging word.
