SIX KEY PRIORITY AREAS HAVE BEEN OUTLINED.

The Government of Saint Lucia is committed to restructuring the economy and putting it on a path of sustained and inclusive growth. In this regard, the government has outlined a medium term development plan for 2019-2022.

Prime Minister Allen Chastanet detailed those plans during the Budget presentation on April 15.

Six key priority areas include affordable access to quality health care; enrollment of 7500 students in public post-secondary or tertiary education and TVET programs; a 45 percent reduction in serious crimes; a 40 percent increase in tourist arrivals; increase in exports of bananas and cocoa; and in infrastructure, 99 kilometers of road, double airlift capacity, and a 40 percent increase in cruise capacity.

The safety of citizens will also be addressed via three focus areas, with the goal of a 45 percent reduction in serious crime by the end of the strategy term in 2022, and a 30 percent reduction in recidivism by that same year.
