ORGANIZERS SAY THE QUALITY OF SUBMISSIONS WAS IMPRESSIVE.

Saint Lucia celebrated its 40th independence anniversary under the theme “All in—Our Journey, Our Future.”

Several activities were held to commemorate the milestone including an independence parade, the Saint Lucian Story production, and the Mr and Ms Independence competitions. Saint Lucian artistes also got a chance to showcase their talents through a song competition.

On March 11, the Independence Committee hosted a prize-giving ceremony to award participants of the various competitions. Sonia Sifflet, member of the Independence 40 committee expressed her satisfaction with the level of participation and the quality of the artistes’ productions.

“From all indications everyone was pleased. When the idea was pitched, participants eagerly took part. For those who readily took part I really want to thank you,” she said. “After reviewing the videos, to say we were pleased with the quality of the music was really an understatement. It shows that Saint Lucians rose to the occasion and really embraced it.”

Among the emerging winners was Silver Shadow with the title of Most Impressive Contingent and Most Innovative Design, Helen Folk Dancers for the Best Interpretation of the Independence Theme, and Menell Delice, the first place winner of the song competition.

Suzette Merille, Assistant Producer of the Independence Parade expressed gratitude to the people of Saint Lucia on behalf of Adrian Augier the producer of The Saint Lucia Story and the Independence Parade.

“It has been a singular honor and a unique privilege to have been invited to produce two significant events to mark the 40th anniversary of our country’s Independence,” she said. “Despite the roller coaster ride, we remain thankful for those who considered us worthy of this mission and trust that we have not fallen short of their expectations.”
