The Global Environment Facility Small Grants Programme (GEF SGP), implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in collaboration with the Women on a Mission Outreach INC. (WOAM) and the Government of Saint Lucia hosted a two-day Knowledge Fair.

The purpose of the fair was to raise more awareness in the areas of environmental quality, nutrition and health. The four-modality knowledge fair consisted of a public forum, 50 interactive booths at the William Peter Boulevard, technical talk sessions, an indigenous culinary area, and an indigenous music section. National Program Coordinator of the GEF SGP UNDP  Giles Romulus hopes the fair encourages Saint Lucian’s inherent intelligence.

We decided to plan Saint Lucia’s first knowledge fair to demonstrate to saint lucians that they latent genius can be reignited once again in many forms, A knowledge fair is an approach to learning which uses several modalities for learning information and knowledge to ensure that there is understanding  and a higher probability of action,”

21 percent of Saint Lucia’s working population is employed in the agricultural sector. Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, Hon Allen Chastanet stresses on the importance of such initiatives.

The topic from soil and Water to the palette; A healthy journey” and the timing of this knowledge fair could not be more appropriate. I say so because it’s happening in midst of a festive season, a time we all know Saint Lucians enjoy more than their fair share of food and drink and while I believe that as a nation we need to celebrate our successes for the year as we give thanks to the almighty for our many blessings, moreover it is important that we should take stalk....not only of what we consume but how we consume.”

The GEF SGP UNDP Knowledge Fair commenced on December 10th and culminated on the December 11, 2018.
