THE PROJECT ENTAILS A COMPLETE REHABILITATION OF THE MILLENIUM HIGHWAY.

Minister for Infrastructure, Hon. Stephenson King, announced yesterday that the Department of Infrastructure will officially launch the Millennium Highway and West Coast Roads Upgrading Project next week.

The Jan. 23 launch will signal an immediate start to the work, which includes a complete rehabilitation of the Millenium Highway; reconstruction of the west coast road from Cul De Sac to Soufriere; a design for the construction of the new Anse La Raye Bridge; and an islandwide road safety programme.

The rehabilitation work is being undertaken with grant funding from the United Kingdom Caribbean Infrastructure Fund (UK-CIF), an injection of approximately $115 million into the local economy.

Meanwhile, the Road Safety Project continues.

“On Jan. 15, the Road Safety Project continued along the west coast road,” Minister King said. “So far over 197 road signs have been erected between Marigot and Soufriere. Later this week, my staff will be hard at work along the East Coast.”

The minister added that government aims to install proper road signs around the island, to assist with making the commute safer for all.
