THE BUS DEPOT IS ENHANCED WITH COVERED SHELTERS TO ALLOW OPERATORS AND COMMUTERS TO ARRIVE AND DEPART IN COMFORT.

Hon. Herod Stanislas, Member of Parliament for Soufriere and Minister in the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Physical Planning, Natural Resources and Co-operatives, recently shared plans for the Soufriere Farmers market.

In accordance with the government’s policy of no sector left behind, a permanent, sheltered facility on Old Trafford will be constructed to create a safer and less restrictive atmosphere for the town’s commuters and produce vendors.

Minister Stanislas said the new design will result in major improvements to the traffic network, in-keeping with expansion plans for the town.

“The management of our town is a vital part of our urban development,” he stated. “With the previous proposal for a bus terminal on Old Trafford, operators would be functioning on an unsheltered concrete pavement in the elements,” he stated. “This is not in keeping with our Master Development Plan. Consequently, we will enhance it with covered shelters to allow operators and commuters to arrive and depart in comfort, complemented by essential amenities in the vicinity.”

The minister continued: “I am pleased to share the plan for the Porte-Cochere and Concession Booth. Construction of this facility will begin simultaneously with a facility for the vendors. I would like to thank the minibus owners and operators for their service to the citizens of this country. This facility is a small way of expressing our gratitude for the work that you do.”

The facility will accommodate weekday and Saturday vendors. Construction will commence in the coming weeks.
