THE ACTIVITY ENCOURAGES WOMEN TO GET MORE INVOLVED IN STEM FIELDS.

The Innovation Division of the Ministry of Education will partner with the Aspire Artemis Foundation to host the 2020 Caribbean Regional STEAM and Innovation Symposium which is themed ‘Mapping an inclusive STEM Future’.

The symposium targets women and girls; and was borne out of a need to get girls and women more involved and take greater leadership in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. The activity which takes place at the Harbor Club Hotel, from February 10 to 13, will see a number of young women and girls from Saint Lucia and the Caribbean contributing to dialogues that will shape their future, families and the world. It will feature a number of prominent senior executives within private sector companies, government policymakers, heads of regional governments, celebrities, and artistic displays and will including musical performances and artistic displays, all designed to inspire and encourage women to get involved in roles that will shape future technologies. The symposium is also inclusive of the arts because it recognised as a key component which shapes creativity and innovation.

The symposium which is sponsored primarily by Microsoft and the World Bank is foundations first event in the Caribbean and is consistent with the organisation’s goal to contribute to long-term development; change lives through youth development and providing opportunity; foster strong communities through youth engagement and empowerment; engage cultures by encouraging youth to broaden their perspectives, foster acceptance and work together to find innovation to complex problems that affect their lives and communities.
