THE RESOURCE TEAM BRINGS AGENCIES TOGETHER TO PROCESS THE NEEDS OF SAINT LUCIANS LIVING OVERSEAS.

The Saint Lucian Diaspora is set to receive improved support as the Diaspora Resource Team; the brainchild of the Diaspora Affairs Unit operating out of the Office of the Prime Minister conducted its first meeting for 2020.

According to the Ambassador Dr. Jocelyn Fletcher, the Diaspora Resource Team was formed to help Saint Lucians overseas by bringing all local agencies together to sort and process their needs.

“We needed to get all the agencies that the Diaspora interacts with or needs things from in order to give back, invest, trade, and buy land among other things. We reckon that persons encounter a lot of delays, this is the premise on which the Diaspora Resource Team was created,” said Ambassador Fletcher.

The first quarterly meeting for 2020 for the Diaspora Resource Team was held at the Conference room of the Office of the Prime Minister on July 21, where Prime Minister Honourable Allen Chastanet briefly addressed the Team thanking them for their selfless patriotic service to the Diaspora and by extension, to the government and people of Saint Lucia.

“This is a very significant meeting and this committee has my full support, not only morally and in spirit but also in terms of the effort you are putting in behind the scenes to get more participation from our Saint Lucian Diaspora,” said Prime Minister Chastanet. “Thank you so much for your service and your contribution to assisting our Diaspora as they are a very important community and they continue to make a significant contribution to our economy.”

The Diaspora Resource Team is made up of Senior Managers from the banking sector, Invest Saint Lucia, Export Saint Lucia, Customs and Excise, the Inland Revenue Department, the Attorney General’s Office, private Attorney at law, Private Real Estate company, Government land and housing (PROUD), Lands and Survey department, SSDF, SLASPA, the Union of St. Lucia Overseas Association and a Trade and Economic Consultant.
