THE PARK WAS DEDICATED IN THE HONOR OF SIR WILLIAM GEORGE MALLET.

The Serenity Park in Sans Souci, Castries has been dedicated to the late Sir William George Mallet.

Sir George served as the Minister for Trade, Industry, Agriculture and Tourism in the first post-independence government of Saint Lucia and in later years, served as Deputy Prime Minister.

Acting Prime Minister, Hon. Guy Joseph said the dedication of the park in his honor is fitting.

“When one considers all that he contributed toward the development of Saint Lucia, having the park dedicated is quite fitting. Sir George Mallet served this country well over the years.”

The daughter of the late Sir George Mallet reflected on her father’s accomplishments and expressed her gratitude to the government on behalf of the Mallet family.

“He was a man of the people,” Juliet Mallet-Phillip said. “I say this from the perspective of a child growing up through the years, and spending numerous Christmas days and Christmas holidays accompanying my parents from house to house and door to door in Castries, to ensure that every single person was taken into account. He was a humble man and he believed in people to people engagement. He cultivated those relationships fastidiously. In similar fashion, he was fastidious in his work for the state.”

Sir George served the Castries Central Constituency for 38 years.

Parliamentary Representative for Castries Central, Hon. Sarah Flood Beaubrun, said the dedication will serve as a reminder of the contributions that Sir George mallet made.

“I am aware and I am reminded every day of the size of the shoes that I have to fill,” said Minister Beaubrun. “Whether I go to Wiltons Yard or whether I go to the CDC, Sir William George Mallet certainly left an indelible mark in Castries.”

The dedication ceremony took place Wednesday, Feb. 13.
