SLBWA holds inaugural evening of appreciation

THE ASSOCIATION HONORED THOSE DEDICATED TO ADVANCING THE CAUSE OF THE VISUALLY IMPAIRED.

The Saint Lucia Blind Welfare Association (SLBWA) has inducted into its Hall of Fame two individuals who have given sterling service to the non-profit organization.

This honour was presented to the Executive Director of the SLBWA Anthony Avril who is well-known for his life-long record of service and dedication to the advancement of the cause of the blind and visually impaired in Saint Lucia.

Retired SLBWA Eye Health Officer Denise Marie Clare Godin who is the architect of the Kids Insight Programme was also honoured during the inaugural Evening of Appreciation held on Tuesday, January 21, 2020.

The event was held under the patronage of His Excellency the Governor General Sir Emmanuel Neville Cenac. The Prime Minister of Saint Lucia Honourable Allen Chastanet who had only just returned on island also made a brief appearance, in show of his concern and support for the blind and visually impaired.  

Meanwhile, awards were presented to both present and former staff members and volunteers of the association.

Governor General His Excellency Sir Emmanuel Neville Cenac, patron of the SLBWA, in his remarks paid tribute to SLBWA stalwart Anthony Avril for his unwavering dedication to the development of the blind, visually impaired and multi- handicapped on island.

SLBWA President Glen Simon indicated that the SLBWA is finding its feet once again after confronting many financial challenges over the past year.

The Saint Lucia Blind Welfare Association also awarded well- known blind crooner Morgan Dupal popularly known as Jim “Coco” Snow with the award for creative excellence.

The Saint Lucia Blind Welfare Association endeavors to host annual appreciation ceremonies going forward.
