THE SESSION IS GEARED AT INTRODUCING ALL APPLICANTS TO THE SAINT LUCIA PUBLIC SERVICE.

The Government of Saint Lucia will host the first ever orientation workshop for students participating in its Summer Employment Programme.

The Summer Employment Programme is a longstanding outreach product of the Government of Saint Lucia, with the objective of empowering and equipping students at various levels of study. It is open to fifth form high school students and first year tertiary and university level students. Students are granted a two month-period of employment from June to July or July to August.

Over the years, successful applicants of the Summer Employment Programme have been subjected to informal orientation sessions within their assigned agencies. In that regard, the Department of the Public Service has recognized the need to incorporate a formal orientation session geared at introducing all applicants to the Saint Lucia Public Service.

This year, for the first time, participants in the Summer Employment Programme will be formally exposed to a comprehensive orientation session. The key areas of focus will be: the Structure and Functions of Ministries and Departments; Introduction to the Staff Orders; Time Management; Ethics and Professionalism; and On-the-Job skills and Student’s Responsibility.

The program will be facilitated by professionals of the Department of the Public Service from the Human Resource Management Division, Organizational Development Division and Training Division in collaboration with an external presenter with expertise in ethics and professionalism.

The orientation workshop will be held on Tuesday, May 28 at 8:30 a.m. at the Public Service Training Institute (PSTI) at Union.
