The Taiwan Embassy and the International Cooperation and Development Fund (ICDF) under the ICT for Educational Development Project, has facilitated the creation of a smart classroom at the Soufriere Comprehensive Secondary School.

The embassy recently presented Chromebooks, tablets, laptops, and projector screens for use in the newly established SMART classroom. Michelle Charles, Permanent Secretary in the Department of Education, said: “The generous contribution of the Republic of China (Taiwan) has set the school on a path to infuse technology into its instruction and learning. These tools ensure that our graduates and teachers are 20th century compliant.”

Taiwanese Ambassador, HE Peter Chen, congratulated the Soufriere Comprehensive Secondary for its keen desire to develop student interest in coding and robotics.

Principal of the Soufriere Comprehensive Secondary School, Joel Charlemagne, said: “Thank you for effecting change not only with this project at the secondary level, but also with the ProFuturo Digital Education Programme which will deliver similar benefits to students at the primary school level. Thank you to the Taiwanese government for equipping schools with the tools needed and providing training for teachers to be more effective in the classrooms so that when students graduate they will be more ready to take on the world.”
