Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons for employment in the post of Staff Nurse I at the Millennium Heights Medical Complex.

 

A.  RESPONSIBILITIES AND RELATIONSHIPS:

  1. To provide quality client-focussed advice, treatment and care to patients, families and carers, utilising a holistic approach.  The Staff Nurse I will form an integral part of a multidisciplinary team and will be required to provide highly responsive and flexible service to consumers and carers, while upholding a high level of professionalism.
  2. Reports to and works under the direction of the Ward Sister.
  3. Required to respond from time to time to the Departmental Sister or Nursing Director on work matters.

 

B.  DUTIES AND TASKS:

  1. Identifies patient care requirements by consulting and establishing a rapport with patients, family members and carers.
  2. Provides planned nursing care to achieve identified outcomes.
  3. Undertakes a comprehensive and accurate nursing assessment of patients using an effective, professional, safe and holistic approach.
  4. Promotes patients’ independence by establishing patient care goals; teaching patients, friends, and family to understand health conditions, medications, and self-care skills.
  5. Through the use of established processes, ensures that all administration and documentation requirements are initiated and completed in a professional and timely manner.
  6. Maintains team integrity and continuity among nursing teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  7. Demonstrates and understands accountability for directing, monitoring and evaluating nursing care that is provided by registered nursing assistants, health aides and students.
  8. Provides health education appropriate to the needs of the patient within a nursing framework.
  9. Ensures quality service is delivered at all times to both internal and external clients through continuous improvement activities.
  10. Performs other work-related duties which may be assigned by Senior Nurses, Departmental Sister, Ward Sister and Nursing Director.

 

C.  CONDITIONS:

  1. Accommodation is provided within a general health care facility.
  2. Accepts responsibility for ensuring that his/her nursing practice and conduct meets the standards of professional, ethical and relevant legislative requirements.
  3. Institutional support provided through appropriate legislation, regulations, Statutory Instruments and departmental protocols and guidelines.
  4. Officer must avail himself/herself for personal development and career advancement through orientation, general and specialised in-service training.
  5. Salary and benefits are in accordance with that stipulated in the terms and conditions of employment.
  6. Required to maintain confidentiality and integrity.
  7. Performance will be evaluated twice yearly.
  8. Salary is in accordance with the terms and conditions stipulated by the Government of Saint Lucia.
  9. Vacation leave will be provided in accordance with established Regulations.
  10. This post is non-pensionable and the holder will be required to contribute to the National Insurance Cooperation.

E.  EVALUATION METHOD:

F.  QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. Must hold valid registration with the General Nursing Council of Saint Lucia

plus

  1. Diploma/Associate Degree in General Nursing, with no previous experience.

 

G.  SALARY

Salary is at the rate of EC $ 42,063.88 per annum (Grade 9, Step 1)
