Daasrean Greene was officially sworn in during an official ceremony at Government House.
Attorney at Law, Daasrean Greene, was officially sworn in today, as the acting Director of Public Prosecutions.
Mr. Greene is a graduate of the University of Wolverhampton, and was called to the Bar in Saint Lucia in 1999. He moved to private practice in 2000.
At the ceremony, the acting DPP was officially congratulated by Governor General Her Excellency Dame Calliopa Pearlette Louisy.
Mr. Greene said he intends to promptly deal with the country's case backlog.
“I will do my best to take care of the outstanding matters facing the department,” he said. “My priorities are the backlog of cases before the High Court of Justice, and as we know, there is public concern about what we call the extrajudicial killings. I aim from today to conduct full investigations into these matters to bring some semblance of order and see how quickly we can [deal with] these matters.”
The acting DPP added that he was grateful for the commitment of the government to provide additional human resources—such as a special prosecutor—if the need arises. He expressed confidence in the hardworking and committed staff at the DPP’s office, and indicated that he may make recommendations for additional staffing following an assessment.
Mr. Greene took the Oath of Office on Oct. 17 at Government House. In attendance were Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs, Justice and National Security, Dr. Cadelia Ambrose; High Court Registrar Charon Gardner; and Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions, Sixtus Brette.
