The OECS Commission is mobilizing regional and global support to ease Dominica’s crisis following Tropical Storm Erica.

The OECS Commission is mobilizing regional and international support to reduce Dominica’s plight as the country rebuilds after massive flooding.

Tropical storm Erica devastated  the island on Aug. 27, resulting in the loss of life and leaving many homeless and lacking basic commodities.

The directorate of the OECS Commission is particularly concerned about the situation in Dominica and is communicating with heads of other OECS member states, the international donor community and organisations to ensure the best possible action.

The small island states of the OECS experience common vulnerabilities to climatic issues and weather systems which impact all member states, and although limited in resources, the organization is strengthening its response to Dominica through dialogue towards a coordinated response from emergency and donor agencies such as National Emergency Management Organizations, CEDEMA, ECLAC and USAID.

The organization said that its prayers go out to those affected and that it is confident that the spirit of community and resilience for which Dominica is known will restore the country’s glowing physical and socioeconomic landscape.

The Commission will update the public regularly, on the coordinated response to Dominica’s needs.
