YOUTH MONTH WAS OFFICIALLY OPENED ON APRIL 5, WITH A YOUTH EXPOSE.

The month of April is being celebrated nationwide as Youth Month.

The Department of Youth and Sports in collaboration with the National Youth Council have organized a number of events to commemorate the occasion.

The celebration included a speech festival from April 1 – 4, where students were trained in areas such as parliamentary debating and public speaking. The official opening of Youth Month was held on Friday, April 5, with a youth expose hosted by the Department of Youth and Sports in collaboration with Volunteer Saint Lucia.

Mary Wilfred, the Director of Youth in the Department of Youth and Sports, explained that the youth expose will allow young entrepreneurs to showcase their different talents and skills.

“The expose began with a march from Serenity Park unto Constitution Park that included various uniformed groups like the cadets, the Red Cross, Boy Scouts, Girl Guides, and other groups and organizations,” she said. “Then participants were given the opportunity to demonstrate what they can do in small business, where a number of young people across the island showcased some of their businesses.”

Additional activities for National Youth Month include a youth camp, youth service week and National Youth Awards.
