IT IS ESTIMATED THAT A 15 TO 20 MINUTE REDUCTION IN TRAVEL TIME COULD BE ACHIEVED.

The Department of Infrastructure along with the Department of Transport and the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force are implementing a Traffic Flow Improvement Programme. The programme will aim to improve travel time along Castries-Gros Islet Highway.

Upon successful implementation, it is estimated that a reduction of 15 to 20 minutes in travel time could be achieved for the 27,000 average daily commuters.

A three-month pilot is currently in motion, focusing on minimizing traffic interruptions by closing the entry into the Windward Island Gases road. The closure will prevent vehicles from using the junction as a bypass. This has been selected as the focus of the pilot due to frequent traffic entering and exiting the secondary junctions within close proximity to the highway; thus interrupting the main traffic flow on the Castries-Gros Islet Highway.

The pilot phase will focus on weekday morning peak hours of 7 to 9 a.m.
