Four key goals for Millennium Highway project

THE PROJECT INCLUDES THE RECONSTRUCTION OF THE WEST COAST ROAD FROM CUL DE SAC TO SOUFRIERE.

Minister for Infrastructure, Ports, Energy and Labor, Hon. Stephenson King, on Jan 23, officially marked the start of the Millennium Highway and West Coast Road Rehabilitation Project with a formal launch and contract signing.

At the event, Prime Minister Hon. Allen Chastanet voiced his support for the initiative.

“I wish Hon. Stephenson King and his team at the Ministry of Infrastructure, Ports, Energy and Labor godspeed as they work to deliver this important project for the people of Saint Lucia.”

Under the project a total of EC$115 million from will be pumped directly into the local economy to accomplish four key goals—a complete rehabilitation of the Millennium Highway; the reconstruction of the West Coast Road from Cul De Sac to Soufriere; a design for the construction of a new Anse La Raye bridge; and a robust island-wide road safety programme.

Minister King said: “This is the start of an exciting journey for the people Saint Lucia. The formal launch and contract signing between the Government of Saint Lucia and FDL Consult Inc., in association with IMC Worldwide for designs for the Millennium Highway and West Coast Roads Upgrading Project, signals the commencement of greater things to come. We are energized, focused, and ready to continue to deliver better for the people of Saint Lucia.”

The project is being undertaken by construction firm, FDL Consult Inc., and is funded by the United Kingdom Caribbean Infrastructure Fund (UK-CIF).
