THE DRILL DISPLAYS WILL TAKE PLACE IN FOUR COMMUNITIES AROUND THE ISLAND FROM FEBRUARY 8 TO 15.

In commemoration of Saint Lucia’s 40th independence anniversary, the Royal Saint Lucia Police force will be hosting a display of drills in four communities.

The drill force will be made up of 40 police officers from different divisions, accompanied by the Royal Saint Lucia Police Band.

Elvis Thomas, Acting Assistant Superintendent of Police, explained that the officers will be performing a series of displays and baton drills which will culminate with a short march.

“Every year during Independence we have a parade where the officers march, but they will also perform some special displays this year, as part of that march. We will perform the standard drills, but it we will also perform a combination of maneuvers. If any remember the 30th anniversary parade, there was also a special drill display, but this year’s will be even better,” said Acting Assistant Superintendent Thomas.

Sergeant Alex Morgan of the Community Relations Branch encouraged the public to support the initiative.

“The display is a treat for the public from the police force, in precision and fancy drills,” he said. “We will be mixing up the normal police drills. The drill displays will take place in four communities, and we’ve targeted one community each in the north, south, east and west of the island. We will be going to various districts around the country namely Soufriere on Feb. 8, Vieux Fort on Feb. 10, La Ressource, Dennery on Feb. 13, and Gros Islet on Feb. 15 as a precursor to the Friday night festivities.”

The drill displays will begin at 5:30 p.m.
