PHYSICAL DISTANCING AND INFECTION CONTROL MEASURES STILL IN EFFECT.

As of June 9, 2020, the World Health Organization reported a total of 7, 039, 918 confirmed cases of COVID-19 globally with 404, 396 deaths. Within the region of the Americas there was a total of 3, 366, 251 cases.

On June 10, 2020 the Ministry of Health and Wellness received the results of 60 COVID-19 tests that were conducted this week, all of which returned as negative. To date, Saint Lucia has recorded a total of 19 confirmed cases of COVID-19, 18 of those cases have fully recovered. The last case was a repatriated cruise national and was recorded on June 4, 2020. We have conducted a total of 1, 264 tests to date.

The Ministry of Health cautions Saint Lucians not to become complacent as it relates to adhering to physical distancing and infection prevention and control measures. Saint Lucians are asked to avoid participating in large social gatherings, to remain vigilant and continue taking the necessary precautions. By doing so, we can all play a significant part in protecting the lives of our families, friends and the most vulnerable population.

The Ministry of Health and Wellness reminds the public that we anticipate new cases and therefore we must comply with the guidelines established in order to reduce the transmission of COVID-19. The support of every citizen is required in maintaining the recommended infection prevention and control and physical distancing measures.

We encourage everyone to continue sanitizing their hands by either hand washing or the use of an alcohol-based hand sanitizer, wearing a mask while undertaking daily activities out of the home and maintain the required 6 foot distance. Also, be sure to cover mouth and nose with disposable tissues or clothing when coughing and sneezing.

The Ministry of Health and Wellness will continue providing regular updates on COVID-19. For more information please contact the Office of the Chief Medical Officer or the Epidemiology Unit, at 468-5309/468-5317 respectively.
