SLASPA suspends operations

A STEVEDORE SUCCUMBS TO INJURIES SUSTAINED DURING INCIDENT AT CASTRIES SEA PORT.

The Saint Lucia Air and Sea Ports Authority (SLASPA), can confirm an incident aboard the MV Baltis Klipper berthed at the Castries Seaport at approximately 12:15 p.m. on Thursday, April 11.

Operations were suspended immediately following the incident to ensure the safety of port users.

Mr. Wilson A. Joseph, a stevedore employed by Winfresh for banana loading ,was taken to the Victoria Hospital via ambulance where he succumbed to his injuries. The matter has been handed over to the Crime Investigations Department (CID) of the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force and the Port Police Department. Vessel and local agents are assisting with the investigations.

The Authority is saddened by the turn of events as this is the first time in our 36-year history that such an incident has occurred at our ports. SLASPA extends sympathies to the family of Mr. Joseph and the staff of Winfresh. SLASPA will provide further updates about this incident as soon as it becomes available.
