DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH HOSTS HEALTH OUTREACH ACTIVITIES.

The Department of Health and Wellness in collaboration with the Special Services Unit of the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force recently hosted a health fair with the aim of bringing health care services to the police officers.

Health Educator Nadiege Smith-Lambert said the Department of Health is pleased to continue health outreach activities that assist with maintaining healthy lifestyles.

“We have been visiting work places; SSU is not the only workplace. It is part of our mandate to go out to workplaces and to do a lot of health education and also offer services because we want persons to learn their bodies. It is supposed to be that you go to a doctor at least twice a year, however some people tell you they don’t have the time or it is a financial burden. Others really don’t have the opportunity to go, so we bring the services here because health education is essential.”

Police Constable of the Special Services Unit, Francillia Cherubin, said the initiative is provides a much-needed opportunity for police officers to access necessary medical screening.

“We wanted to bring awareness of health especially because of the hours that we work. We need to maintain good health in order to continue the work that we do.”

The health fair offered services such as blood sugar and blood pressure testing, eye tests, BMI checks, HIV and syphilis testing, among others.
