The Ministry of Health and Wellness recently received a donation of ventilators and test kits from the Government of the Republic of China Taiwan, following a handover ceremony at the Owen King EU Hospital.

Taiwanese Ambassador His Excellency Peter Chen said his government remains committed to providing support to Saint Lucia in the fight against COVID-19.  

“I am proud to present to Saint Lucia this token of care and support from the Government of Taiwan; altogether, four ventilators and 3000 test kits to contribute to Saint Lucia’s effort to fight the COVID-19 pandemic. For the first few months, under the leadership of the Hon. Prime Minister and the efforts of the Government of Saint Lucia, Saint Lucia has been remarkable in the response of the pandemic.”

Prime Minister for Saint Lucia Hon. Allen Chastanet expressed appreciation for the diplomatic relations between Taiwan and Saint Lucia and the continuous support provided.

“A genuine friendship is one in which it is easy to be able to measure the success of that relationship in times when you need someone in the smallest ways—and certainly today’s contribution, significant in monetary basis. Probably one of the most difficult things to get hold of in the world of today is a ventilator, so it is not even something that money can buy, and that is what makes this gift so special to get four ventilators at this particular time.”

Minister for Health and Wellness Sen. Hon. Mary Isaac expressed gratitude to the government and people of Taiwan for the donation that will assist the health sector tremendously.

“Ambassador, I am always very touched to receive these gifts from Taiwan. Of course, your assistance is present with many projects in almost all areas of our development in Saint Lucia and we are very grateful for it as they truly address challenges that we face in our country.”

The Government of the Republic of China Taiwan made a donation of four ventilators and 3000 antibody rapid test kits.
