THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH BRINGS THE CURTAINS DOWN ON ACTIVITIES MARKING VACCINATION WEEK.

Vaccination Week activities culminated with a health fair at the grounds of the Dennery Police Station. The fair promoted the importance of vaccination and healthy living.

Vaccination Week was celebrated under the theme: “Protect Your Community, Everyone Do Your Part.”

Principal Nursing Officer, Alicia Baptiste, said the activity allowed for increasing awareness about the importance of getting vaccinated to prevent infectious diseases.

“We are focusing on the preschoolers. We are looking at their vaccination schedules and checking to see that they are up to date, and also to educate the parents and teachers on the importance of vaccination. It is important for children to be vaccinated to prevent them from acquiring infectious diseases.”

Baptiste also called on parents to play an importance role in supporting vaccination.

“Saint Lucians need to avoid listening to all the negative claims about vaccinations. Vaccination is important in order to protect ourselves and have a healthy nation.”

The concluded vaccination activity included blood pressure and blood sugar testing, nutrition education, counselling and oral health education.
