The water supply projects aim to provide a safe and reliable supply to communities that have experienced severe shortages in the dry season and during storms.

An allocation of just over $6.3 million is in place for the Vieux-Fort water project, while an additional $7 million has been allocated to the Dennery water project for this financial year.

The water supply projects are aimed at providing an efficient, safe and sustainable supply of potable water to the residents of both communities.

Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Hon. Dr. Kenny D. Anthony said the water improvement projects are in response to serious water concerns.

“The water supply has been unreliable in both the dry and rainy seasons due to the vulnerability of the water systems and rainfall variability," he explained. "Moreover, during periods of intense rainfall, the turbidity level of the raw water rises significantly above acceptable levels.

"The Vieux-Fort project will comprise the installation of new water production, transmission, and storage facilities, as well as non revenue water reduction measures. Other project components for the Vieux Fort water supply system include technical assistance to enhance the operational efficiency of WASCO through the development of an energy improvement plan, preparation of a watershed management plan and assistance to improve the capacity of the Water Resource Management Agency to monitor the Vieux-Fort watershed."

The Dennery Water Supply Project includes water intake construction and raw water transmission, the construction of a water treatment plant and the installation of pumping facilities.
