SAINT LUCIA WORKS TO INSTITUTIONALIZE KWÉYÒL LANGUAGE.

The Ministry of Education, Innovation, Science, Technology and Vocational Training, through the Curriculum and Materials Development Unit (CAMDU), will hold its National Language Policy Implementation Planning Virtual Conference on Tuesday August 31, 2021, from 10 am to 1 pm.

To date, under the OECS USAID Early Learners Programme (ELP), a Draft Policy has been developed, based on feedback from a cross-section of Saint Lucian society. The Ministry, sustaining and building on the work of the ELP, is currently putting together an implementation plan which will outline the process of institutionalizing our Kwéyòl language in all aspects of our society, including the education system. This process requires the input of as many Saint Lucians as possible, as the ideas garnered will influence the design of Saint Lucia’s Implementation Plan.

The development of the Saint Lucia National Language Policy builds on the important foundational work done by citizens of Saint Lucia in the past decades. The Virtual Conference, which will be streamed via the Ministry’s You Tube Channel, Edu Saint Lucia Plus, brings together professionals from across the Caribbean region, including Dame Pearlette Louisy, Professor Hazel Simmons-McDonald, Professor Hubert Devonish and Dr. Kathy Depradine to share implementation processes, best practices, considerations and recommendations.
