PRIME MINISTER SAYS CLIMATE-CONSCIOUS CONSUMERS CAN NOW INFLUENCE BUSINESS DECISIONS.
Discussions at the World Economic Forum 2019 centered on the environment and building sustainability.
Members deliberated the issue of building markets that attract demand, but that also take into account matters of sustainability, inequality and climate change.
Prime Minister of Saint Lucia and Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Chairman, the Hon. Allen Chastanet, said while he believes businesses are not ready to tackle environmental issues—including lessening greenhouse gas emissions and the issue of climate change—he noted that the emergence of a more conscious set of consumers is pushing the business world in this direction.
The prime minister said the consumer now has the power to impact the market. He explained that their wants and needs are able to influence the choices made by businesses.
The prime minister is expected to deliver his statement at the general debate of the United Nations General Assembly on Sep. 27.
