CSSD Supervisor with the Ministry of Health and Wellness (OKEU Hospital)

Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons for employment in the Post of CSSD Supervisor with the Ministry of Health and Wellness (OKEU Hospital) for a period of six (6) months in the first instance.

 

A.   RESPONSIBILITIES AND RELATIONSHIPS: -

1.    Provides day-to-day supervision of the operations of the Central Sterilization Supply Department.

2.    Works under the direction of and reports to the Central Sterilization Supply Manager.

3.    May be required to respond to the Departmental Sister or Assistant Director Administration on matters pertaining to work in progress.

 

B.   DUTIES AND TASKS: -

1.     Assists in the effective supervision of staff of the Central Sterilization Supply Department through a process of monitoring, target setting, training and development and evaluation to ensure quality service delivery;

2.     Evaluates staff under his or her supervision in accordance with established Public Service procedures and processes to ensure optimal staff performance is maintained;

3.     Assists in establishing methods and work performance standards for preparation and handling of sterile items;

4.     Ensures that staff members adhere to all hospital policies and procedures;

5.     Implements the safety policy of the Central Sterilization Supply Department and ensures that all accidents/incidents are documented and reported on a timely basis;

6.     Recommends inventory levels to meet current demands;

7.     Ensures that junior technicians and students of the Central Sterilization Supply Department sort, record and wash all instruments according to prescribed standard;

8.     Ensures the safe and effective operation of all equipment in the Central Sterilization Supply Department and that all sterilized packs are store in the assigned area;

9.     Recommends and monitors inventory levels to meet current demands;

10.  Ensures that records of stock levels of all items are kept by Central Sterilization Supply Department Technicians and expiry dates are monitored;

11.  Establishes and maintains positive professional relationships within the Department and with all CSSD customers;

12.  Performs On-Call duties whenever required;

13.  Supervises and monitors junior CSSD Technicians in the collection of non-sterile surgical instruments from the Wards and Departments and ensures delivery all processed sterile packs on a timely basis;

14.  Monitors the inventory of surgical instruments and sterile packs for expiry dates;

15.  Assists in the orientation of all new staff members to the Central Sterilization Supply Department;

16.  Takes personal responsibility to pursue continuing education relevant to CSSD practice and participates in mandatory courses required by the Hospital.

17.  Performs any other job-related functions as assigned by the CSSD Manager or Departmental Sister from time to time.

 

C.   CONDITIONS:

1.     Recognized CSSD Certificate or Registered Nurse certification

8.     Salary and benefits are in accordance with that stipulated in the terms and conditions of employment.

9.  This post is non-pensionable according to the Pensions Act of        February 2003; and the incumbent is expected to contribute to the National Insurance Cooperation.

 

 

D.    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITY:

1.     Ability to use various sterilizing machines safely and effectively.

2.     Ability to engage and deploy human resources assigned to the unit/department through effective rostering, to ensure acceptable staff productivity and efficiency levels;

3.      Working knowledge of surgical/medical procedures and relevant instruments and procedure packs;

4.     Ability to lead and develop a diverse team or participate as an active member of a team, consistent with the philosophy and policies of the organization;

5.     Ability to demonstrate safety protocols with regard to unexpected client responses, confrontation, personal threat or other crisis situations;

6.     Working knowledge of computers and computer applications;

7.     Working knowledge of the Civil Service Rules and Regulations, Standard Operation Procedures, Staff Orders;

8.     Ability to exercise initiative, tact and good judgement particularly as it relates to safeguarding of confidential information;

9.     Excellent written and oral communication skills and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise with a wide range of internal and external clients;

10.  Advanced ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of internal and external clients;

11.   Advanced organizational and time management skills, in particular ability to prioritize workload;

12.  Ability to uphold high levels of professionalism and confidentiality;

13.  Ability to apply general administrative principles;

14.  Strong supervisory skills and ability to mentor subordinate staff;

15.  Ability to teach and train CSSD students;

 

E.   QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

1.    Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university in Health Services Management, Health Care Administration or related field plus two [2] years at Grade 7 and above;

OR

2.     Associate Degree/Diploma from a recognized institution in Health Services Management, Health Care Administration or related field plus three [3] years’ in a Central Sterilization Supply Department.

 

EVALUATION METHOD:

     Work performance will be evaluated bi-annually on the basis of the following:

1.     Demonstrated compliance and application of Civil Service Regulations, Departmental Guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures.

2.     Demonstrated application of job knowledge and/or technical expertise relevant to the job.

3.     Demonstrated accuracy, attention to detail, neatness and effectiveness of work assigned.

4.     Demonstrated willingness to accept the responsibility and authority of the post; taking action and making sound decisions on matters associated with the post.

5.     Demonstrated ability to effectively relate to internal and/or external clients; displaying respect, fairness, courtesy and consideration of client needs.

6.     Demonstrated ability to analyze information, factors and alternatives to situations and problems to arrive at logical conclusions and implement appropriate solutions to ensure completion of assigned tasks.

7.     Demonstrated time management skills and ability to complete assigned tasks in a timely manner; punctuality and presence for work, meetings and other official activities.

8.     Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and interact positively with team members and internal and external clients.

9.     Ability to display initiative, innovation and ingenuity in effectively fulfilling the duties of the post.

10.  Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality, professionalism and flexibility in scheduling work assignments as priorities change in a fast-paced environment.

 

G.    SALARY:

 Salary is at the rate of EC$45,844.98 per annum.
