Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons for appointment to the post of HOSPITAL ENGINEER III at the Ministry of Health, Wellness, Human Services and Gender Relations (Victoria Hospital).

  1. RESPONSIBILITIES AND RELATIONSHIP
  1. Maintenance of equipment and systems such as the generators, heating, air-conditioning, refrigeration, and ventilation systems in the hospital and ensure that they are functional.
  1. Development and implementation of a Management Plan for maintenance    operations at the Hospital.
  1. Required to respond whenever necessary to the Permanent Secretary on matters related to work in progress.
  1. DUTIES AND TASKS
  1. Schedules preventative and corrective maintenance on plant equipment.
  1. Develops and implements budget preparation and inventory control.
  1. Performs operation and maintenance of the following equipment: Stand-by generator, Autoclave/Sterilizer, Boiler, Air Compressor Vacuum pump, Suction Machine, Laundry, Biomedical Gases and Kitchen Equipment.
  1. Ensures regular maintenance of air conditioning, chilled water systems and electrical distribution systems.
  1. Co-ordinates and schedules daily activities of plant maintenance staff.
  1. Co-ordinates and schedules ground and environmental maintenance.
  1. Performs any other related duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Executive Director or authorized officer.

 

  1. CONDITIONS
  1. Comply with all organizational policies and standards regarding ethical business practices.
  1. Required to be on-call in accordance with on-call/call-out policies.
  1. Entitled to protective clothing as per the Collective Agreement.
  1. General office accommodation is provided for at the Victoria Hospital.
  1. Maintain regulatory requirements.
  1. Institutional support is provided through appropriate Civil Service Regulations, Policy and Procedures Manual, Staff Orders of the Civil Service and Departmental Guidelines.
  1. The officer must avail himself/herself for personal development and career advancement through established orientation and in-service training.
  1. Salary in accordance with the terms and conditions stipulated by the     Government in the Estimates/Collective Agreement.
  1. This post is non-pensionable according to Pensionable Act of February 2003.

 

  1. EVALUATION METHODS

Work performance will be evaluated on the basis of the following:-

  1. The degree of efficiency and effectiveness with which the unit provides the appropriate services to other units and divisions within the hospital.
  1. Demonstrated capability and interpersonal skills.
  1. Resolution of employee conflict situations within the Unit.
  1. Application of knowledge and techniques in the proper functioning of the job.
  1. Demonstrated professional, administrative, supervisory and/or specialized knowledge required to perform the job.
  1. Demonstrated team capabilities.
  1. Compliance with Civil Service Rules and Regulations and the code of        professional conduct.

 

  1. SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
  1. A comprehensive knowledge of, and ability to interpret Civil Service Rules and Regulations, Operating Procedures, Staff Orders, Collective Agreement.
  1. Knowledge of organisation and management techniques, including       interviewing skills, report writing, etc.
  1. Good communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills.
  1. Ability to analyze issues and present findings.
  1. Demonstrated team building abilities.
  1. Troubleshooting and problem solving skills.

 

  1. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Master of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field plus two (2) years in a post at Grade 12 and above or two (2) years post qualifying experience.

Or

Master of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field plus 4 years in a post at Grade 10 and above or three (3) years post qualifying experience.

Or

 

Bachelors’ Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field plus post graduate Diploma with a minimum of four (4) years post qualifying experience.

Certificate in Project Management and Basic knowledge of biomedical equipment maintenance will be considered an asset.

 

  1. SALARY

Salary is at the rate of $69,665.49 Grade 16, Step 1.
