Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons for appointment to the post of QUANTITY SURVEYOR III, II, I - Ministry of Infrastructure, Port Service and Transport
RELATIONSHIPS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1) Works under the direction of and reports to the Deputy Chief Engineer.
2) Required to respond to the Chief Engineer whenever necessary on matters related to work in progress.
DUTIES AND TASKS
1. Undertakes comparative costing and cost analysis exercises at the preliminary stages of projects.
2. Prepares preliminary Estimates, Bills of Quantities and Tender Documents.
3. Advises on all aspects of Project Costing including Financial Statements and Cash Flow Schedules.
4. Advises on contractual selection and appropriate contractual methods to be adopted on capital methods.
5. Provides contract management services when required and develop contract strategies pertinent to projects undertaken by the Ministry.
6. Examines and validates contractual claims to maintain and update register of contractors in appropriate performance categories.
7. Prepares variations and final accounts and implement cost control methods and techniques to ensure that cost is not exceeded without authority.
8. Assists in the formulation, implementation and monitoring of projects undertaken by the Technical Services Division of the Ministry.
9. Carry out periodic Management and Technical Audits of ongoing projects.
10. Prepares daily time use logs.
11. Performs other related duties as may be assigned to from time to time by the Deputy Chief Engineer or Chief Engineer.

1. Congenial administrative office accommodation will be provided.

6. The post is a scheduled travelling post. The officer is therefore required to maintain a motor vehicle for the proper performance of his/her duties. Basic travelling and mileage allowances are in accordance with approved rates.

2. Report quality as indicated by their clarity and accuracy.
3. Proven knowledge and understanding of, and effective application of Civil Engineering Rules and Regulations.
4. Compliance with Departmental Guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures.
5. Effective implementation of duties, responsibilities and assignments as defined in the Job Description.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
1. A working knowledge of and ability to interpret Civil Service Rules and Regulations and Operating Procedures Staff Orders, Financial and Store Rules, Collective Agreements, etc.
2. Familiarization with the Standard Operating Procedures contained in the Department’s Operation Manual.
3. Potential for Leadership.
4. Decisiveness, soundness of judgment and clarity in issuing directives.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Grade 12 1. BSc degree in Quantity Surveying from a recognized University plus two (2) years post qualifying experience or experience at Grade 10.
Grade 14 2. BSc degree in Quantity Surveying from a recognized University plus two (2) years post qualifying experience or experience at Grade 12.
Grade 16 3. BSc degree in Quantity Surveying from a recognized University plus two (2) years post qualifying experience or experience at Grade 14.
SALARY Salary is at the rate of EC $ 69,665.49 per annum (Grade 16 Step 1) $ 61,914.36 per annum (Grade 14 step 1) $ 54,163.24 per annum (Grade 12 Step 1)
