Four officers complete a Mock Prison Riot Training Course in the United States.
Four officers from the Bordelais Correctional Facility (BCF) recently completed a Mock Prison Riot training course in the United States.
The four-day course was sponsored by the United States Government under the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative. The venue allowed for on-site tactical training under real-world prison conditions, which allowed for the deployment of technologies and less lethal munitions.
Correctional Officers III Nita Prospere, Lee Willie, Sanjay Paul, and Correctional Officer II, Ronald Charles, are all team leaders within the Special Operations Response Team (SORT). The Director of the Bordelais Correctional Facility said the course was specifically requested to provide training for the Special Operations Response Team (SORT) at the Correctional Facility.
The SORT is a tactical team at the Bordelais Correctional Facility with the responsibility for perimeter security; escorting inmates to court and medical appointments; shake down searches of inmates and staff; forced cell extraction of inmates; and disturbance control.
The newly-trained team leaders are now preparing work plans for the training of other SORT members and regular line staff officers.
The training course was held from May 4 – 7, 2014.
