CARICOM Task Force on Climate Change meets in Saint Lucia today

The initiative seeks to advance the Caribbean climate change negotiation position for the COP 21.

​The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Task Force on Climate Change is taking a strategic approach to prepare and present a coordinated position ahead of the 21st Climate Change Conference of Parties (COP 21) scheduled to take place in Paris at the end of this year.

The President of France, Hon. Francois Holland, has invited Heads of State and governments of the region to a summit on climate change in Martinique, on  May 9.

The initiative seeks to advance the Caribbean climate change negotiation position in the context of the COP 21.

In this regard the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre (CCCCC), will convene a meeting of the CARICOM Task Force on Climate Change in Saint Lucia, today, April 21. The preparatory coordination meeting will be held under the chairmanship of Saint Lucia`s Minister for Sustainable Development, Energy, Science and Technology, Sen. Hon. Dr. James Fletcher who currently heads the CARICOM Task Force.

Key CARICOM climate change negotiators and resource persons are scheduled to participate.

Focus areas will include mitigation and adaptation, loss and damage, the CARICOM Preparations for Martinique Summit, the draft Martinique Declaration and the Road to COP 2015 in Paris.

The CARICOM Preparatory Expert Meeting for Martinique Climate Summit will take place at the Bay Gardens Hotel in Rodney Bay commencing with the opening ceremony at 9 a.m.
