The post mortem for carnival 2019 is scheduled to begin this week as the government of Saint Lucia places focus on the development of regulations and licensing for carnival 2019.
The two-day street parade of live bands welcomed a number of new bands including XUVO carnival band which was the biggest band. Minister in the Ministry of Tourism, Information and broadcasting, culture and Creative Industries with responsibility for Culture and Creative Industries, Sen. Hon. Fortuna Belrose highlights the importance of setting regulations due to the increase in visitors coming to experience Saint Lucia carnival.
“The numbers form these bands were very very significant. It says a lot to us that people are listening to us from the outside they’re responding to us and I think the investment that the government has made in terms of trying to expanding this product and making it into something that all of us can be proud of, I think we’re well on course in terms of doing that cleartly we have to be able to establish the regualtions and the standards for operating these events and we are busy trying to do this,” Sen. Belrose says. The minster states that the carnival zone has been expanded and highlighted the impacts of the increase in private events.
“We do have some of these events, because some of these events are advertised online you have high levels of patrons and persons coming in and to some extent some times the organizers do not manage that properly, they are not prepared in terms of the level of patronage to their events so we have a responsibility as a government to ensure that these events are licensed and people obtain the necessary clearance before they can say they’re actually doing these events. So all of that is food for thought discussion during the post mortem and I think hat the fact tht people have been thr4ough it, we’ve been doing this for years but we need some controls, we need to ensure that we conform to standards and that where we are headed now,” The Minister unveils.
The Minister encouraged the organizers and executive members of bands to educate their members on the regulations and rules as it relates to carnival.
