THE THOROUGHFARE WAS RENAMED IN HONOR OF SIR JULIAN ROBERT HUNTE.
The Castries to Gros-Islet Highway was renamed in honor of Sir Julian Robert Hunte, earlier this week. The honor is due to Sir Julian Hunte’s contributions to the country and the community of Gros Islet.
Sir Julian served as a member of Parliament from 1987 to 1996. He was instrumental in the establishment of Saint Lucia National Trust and also contributed to Saint Lucia’s sporting landscape.
Minister for Youth Development and Sports and Parliamentary Representative for Gros Islet, Hon. Kenson Casimir, described the event as long overdue, while the Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, Hon. Philip J. Pierre described Sir Julian Hunte’s contributions to the community of Gros Islet as legendary.
Sir Julian Hunte’s granddaughter, Jaye Renee Hunte, thanked the Government of Saint Lucia for the honor on his behalf. The renaming ceremony was held on Sunday, Aug. 15, 2022.
