SEVERAL TOURISM RELATED INITIATIVES ARE SET TO RETURN TO THE WEST COAST COMMUNITIES.
Community Tourism initiatives in the communities of Canaries and Anse la Raye are set to get a boost with the commencement of work on several infrastructural projects.
One of those is the construction of a sewage treatment plant that will facilitate the opening of a Bed and Breakfast.
Constituency Representative, Hon. Wayne Girard, said: “There was an issue with the Bed and Breakfast and the Prime Minister just recently approved the budget for the installation of a sewer treatment plant. Previously what transpired was that there was literally a pipe from a flush urinal running directly into the sea, which is something we could not allow to continue. So we will be putting in the sewer treatment plant so that the B&B in Anse La Raye will continue in the right manner.”
Other projects include rehabilitative works on the jetty as well as the relaunch of the Anse La Raye Fish Friday social event. The once popular Friday night entertainment activity has been a source of revenue for the people of Canaries and Anse La Raye.
The minister added that in Canaries, a restaurant and market is scheduled to open soon.
“In the community of Canaries, by the end of this month we would have completed works on the restaurant and market. We look forward to this being a great success. We are also in the process of installing an outdoor gym in Jacmel along with feeder roads to communities within Jacmel.”
The minister reassured constituents that his mission is to improve the lives of constituents.
“I got into this business to improve the lives of the people who live in the constituency that made me who I am today. I have every intention to deliver on every single commitment,” he said.
Honourable Wayne Girard is also the Minister in the Ministry of Finance, Economic Development and Youth Economy.
