SEVENTEEN CORRECTIONAL OFFICERS GRADUATE TO THE POSITION OF PAROLE LIAISONS.

Seventeen correctional officers recently attended a two-week training course titled “An Introduction to Correctional Planning Training”. The course furnished the officers with the knowledge and skills required to become parole liaison officers. At the closing ceremony, officers were presented with certificates recognizing participation and knowledge gained.

Assistant Director of Probation and Parole Services, Mr. Cuthbert Henry, said: “One of the important aspects in terms of rapport building was gaining an understanding of the individual, and one of the barriers to understanding persons is perception. I have complete confidence and hope in the future of the correctional facility, the young people, and those of you who have been there.”

Correctional Officer Carleen John, said that after completion of the two-week training session, officers are better equipped to usher inmates of the Bordelais Correctional Facility through the process of rehabilitation.

“During the course of the training, my colleagues gained vast experience and knowledge about the correctional plan and the parole process. We are now familiar with some theories which will help us better understand our residents and not be judgmental. You have done enormous service to us the participants through organizing this training. Now we are fully ready to make an impact with what we have learnt so far.”

The sessions commenced on May 26 and ended on June 16.
