MIZIK - A CELEBRATION OF MUSICIANS WILL BE HELD ON NOV. 23, AT THE NATIONAL CULTURAL CENTRE.
In commemoration of Saint Cecilia's Day, traditionally celebrated as the Feast of Musicians (celebrated on November 22nd annually), the Cultural Development Foundation (CDF) proudly presents "MIZIK: A Celebration of Our Musicians- featuring the De Ashanti." Set to be held on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at the National Cultural Centre, this spectacular event pays tribute to the immense talent and legacy of De Ashanti, while celebrating our Saint Lucian musicians.
The evening will be headlined by the soulful lyrical works of De Ashanti and will feature an impressive lineup of Saint Lucian artists, including Dezral, Arthur Allain, Qpid, Ezra, Herb Black, Imran Nerdy, Invader, Lady Leen, Minelle, TC Brown, and Ti Blacks. This pantheon of musical icons and stars will come together to perform some of De Ashanti’s timeless calypso hits, celebrating the power of Saint Lucian music across generations and genres.
“Saint Cecilia’s Day (celebrated on November 22nd annually) is an ideal moment to honour our musicians who have contributed immensely to our culture and brought Saint Lucian music to the world,” says (Murchel Hippolyte, Director of Business Development and Marketing, CDF). “We are thrilled to gather our country’s musical icons and talents in one grand celebration which also nurtures and promotes the transmission of generational knowledge to our younger talents. "MIZIK" is a heartfelt tribute to their dedication, creativity, and contribution to our cultural identity.”
This year’s celebration is anticipated to draw music lovers of all ages. We want to cement "MIZIK" as a cornerstone event in Saint Lucia’s cultural calendar. "MIZIK" seeks to inspire and engage the next generation of musicians, ensuring that Saint Lucia’s rich musical heritage continues to thrive. In addition, the CDF in collaboration with CAMDU and Mr. Nahum Jn Baptiste (a well renowned Saint Lucian songwriter) will coordinate developmental activity focusing on song writing targeted towards our youth. This is scheduled for December 6th, 2024 at the CDF conference room.
Join us for an evening filled with rhythm, melody, and nostalgia as we celebrate the essence of Saint Lucian music. Let's come together to honour the musicians who fill our lives with the joy of song and the beat of our culture. Audiences can expect a vibrant showcase of Saint Lucian music heritage, encompassing everything from folk rhythms to contemporary sounds, reflecting the diversity of the island’s music scene with direction from musical maestro, Mr. Gregory Piper.
