Prime Minister Timothy Harris has had the benefit of ministerial experience which, Dr. Anthony said, will serve him in good stead.
Prime Minister, Hon. Dr. Kenny D. Anthony has extended congratulations to the new Prime Minister and Government of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis.
In a statement released today, the Prime Minister commended St. Kitts on its peaceful transition of power.
“On behalf of the Government and People of Saint Lucia, I extend congratulations to Prime Minister Timothy Harris and Team Unity on their victory at last Monday’s general elections. I congratulate, as well, the people of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis for the exemplary manner in which they conducted themselves on polling day and in the immediate aftermath of the polls. Our region’s treasured democratic traditions have been maintained in what was another peaceful transition of power.
"The task of governing the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis now resides with Prime Minister Harris and his cabinet," Dr. Anthony continued. "The people of St. Kitts and Nevis can rest assured of the support and co-operation of the government and people of Saint Lucia. These are trying times in which we live and it is only by cooperation that small island states like ours can succeed.
"There are major economic and financial decisions to be made in the weeks ahead. These decisions will require that we all work closely together for the collective benefit of our citizens. We have to be each other’s keeper. Prime Minister Harris has had the benefit of ministerial experience and I am positive this will serve him in good stead as he enters this new phase of his political journey. I wish him well in that regard."
Dr. Anthony also extended his regards to former Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas, to whom the people of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis entrusted their well-being for nearly twenty years. He said that former Prime Minister Douglas gave outstanding service to his country and to the region.
"The players may be different but the task of governing continues," he added. "I call upon all concerned to work together so that St. Kitts and Nevis and our region can continue the stride towards the prosperity of our peoples.”
