Earthquake north east of Castries, Saint Lucia

NEMO: no reports of damage.

​The Seismic Research Unit (SRU) has confirmed that today, Monday, Sep. 15, 2014, at about 5:09 p.m., an earthquake occurred approximately 90.0 km north-east of Castries, Saint Lucia.

According to preliminary results, the event occurred at a depth of 10 km and had a magnitude of 5.0 on the Richter scale.  Earthquakes with a magnitude of 2.5 to 5.4 on the Richter scale are often felt, but cause little to minor damage.

Reports reaching NEMO indicate that the earthquake was felt in Castries, Entrepot and the Choiseul area.  No reports of damage have been received.
