The cooperative provides agricultural support services in a variety of areas to its members.

The Belle Vue Farmers’ Cooperative is doing its part to help the agriculture industry flourish by assisting farmers primarily in the Fond St Jacques, Soufriere, and Choiseul areas with a number of services.

Anthony Herman, Project Coordinator at the Belle Vue Farmers’ Cooperative, said the organization understands the trials farmers face.

“We really understand the needs of the farmers and we try to provide as much as possible because it’s all about the social responsibility of developing our people,” he said.

Marketing is the number one priority for the organization which comprises about 200 registered farmers. Other services available are credit programs, training, operational management and equipment supply.

The Farmers’ Cooperative, with help from the Ministry of Agriculture, also seeks to ensure that members produce quality products.

“With assistance from USAID and our other partners, we have set up a very modern seedling nursery where we provide thousands of healthy seedlings, grown in pitmoss,” he explained. “We’ve been doing that for many years.”

The Famers Cooperative began 25 years ago with ten members. It has since grown to include members from around Saint Lucia.
