A signing ceremony will initiate a feasibility study that will determine the possibility of constructing a new route that will link the north and south of the island.

The Government of Saint Lucia has come one step closer towards the creation of an alternative route between the north and south of the island.

Tomorrow, the Ministry of Infrastructure, Port Services and Transport will initiate the execution of a study that will determine the feasibility of creating a new route linking the north and south of Saint Lucia, via an official signing ceremony.

The north-south link road was first examined in a 2001 study, however before this new road can be built, a new feasibility study must be carried out to take into account updated traffic numbers, disaster risk reduction, climate resilience considerations, as well as the potential economic development which may result from providing access to lands which currently have none.

The procurement of the consultant to undertake the feasibility study was done by a public competitive tender process, and is being part funded by a grant from the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) and the Government of Saint Lucia.

The selected consultant, as well as the nature and details of the study will be disclosed during the signing ceremony for the execution of the feasibility study.

The ceremony will be held on Thursday, Nov. 27, at 12 p.m., at the Conference Room of the Ministry of Infrastructure, Port Services and Transport, located at Union.
