Minister for Health, Wellness, Human Services and Gender Relations, Hon Alvina Reynolds, made a special visit to the St. Jude Hospital in the wake of the death of Julius Ferguson.
Ferguson, 50, a construction worker at the new St. Jude Hospital site, died as a result of an injury he sustained at about 2:30 p.m. on July 15. It was reported that The 50 year old received a cut to his throat after a small grinder he was operating slipped.
Minister Reynolds expressed condolences to the co-workers, family and friends of Julius Ferguson.
“It is a very traumatic event, I am sure, for the workers who were on site at the time, and I want to ensure that all is being done to support them through this. I am reassured, as the debriefing sessions have begun, that there are professionals on call to help them. As a Ministry we take mental health very seriously, and we want to ensure that all the workers: supervisors, contractors, consultants, and all persons associated with the project at St. Jude Hospital get the necessary debriefing."
Ferguson was from the community of Doe Carmel, La Resource, Vieux Fort. As a result of the incident, the construction site was temporarily closed. It will reopen on Monday, July 28.
