THE PROJECT HAS AN ESTIMATED CONSTRUCTION DURATION OF THREE MONTHS AND AN ESTIMATED COST OF EC$1.5 MILLION.

The Soufriere Foundation has announced that the first phase of the Hummingbird Beach Enhancement Project recommenced on Monday, Jan. 15.

Senior Project Officer, Malcolm Mathurin, said the project will enhance the tourism product in Soufriere and generate economic activity.

The project comprises of beach bar, storage buildings, shops, washrooms, concession booth and rent-a-shacks, with a construction duration of three months and an estimated cost of EC$1.5 million.

“During this time, the beach will be accessible to pedestrians. However, it will be necessary to restrict vehicular access unto the beach,” Mr. Mathurin said.

Minister in the Ministry for Economic Development, Housing, Urban Renewal, Transport and Civil Aviation, Hon. Herod Stanislas, said the project will add another component to the town’s public infrastructure for residents and visitors.

“I indicated during my New Year address that this year will be full of new developments,” he said. “I am pleased to announce the continuation of the Hummingbird Beach Enhancement Project which was first started in 2011.”

The Hummingbird Beach Enhancement Project is designed to promote entrepreneurship and sustainable jobs for small business owners, water taxi operators, tour operators, vendors, and water sport operators in Soufriere and Fond St. Jacques.

The Soufriere Foundation is a not for profit organisation located in Soufriere. Its mandate is to undertake social, economic, cultural and other sustainable developments in the Soufriere region.
