Daren Sammy fulfils a lifelong dream to give back through a philanthropic, non-profit, charitable organization.

Daren Sammy has taken the world of International Cricket by storm, leading the West Indies Cricket team to capture two World Cup titles within four years.

Grateful to those who have contributed to his success and deeply passionate about the youth, Captain Sammy, on Wednesday, launched the Daren Sammy Foundation, fulfilling a life-long dream to give back.

The goal of the foundation is to provide opportunities and supplies for, and to nurture and mold young, emerging cricketers.

Sammy said the foundation will provide the necessities that parents can't.

"There are kids who are [talented] but their moms just cannot provide the necessaries that will push them further [and help] to break that barrier to become future champions not only in Saint Lucia, but the rest of the world. I'm really thankful that some people paid attention [to me] and I just want to give back.”

The stated objectives of the foundation are to raise $300,000 to produce high quality sports programs for the youth; to provide educational and sporting supplies to under-privileged athletes; to outfit ten fully-equipped gear bags for ten individual cricketers; and to provide twenty students with school supplies at the beginning of every school year.

A mentorship program for budding champions will also be established to assess and develop physical and technical skills.

The foundation hopes to broaden its reach over the next few years by investing $50,000 in the development of other sporting disciplines on the island.

Minister for Youth Development and Sports, Hon. Lenard Montoute, congratulated Sammy on the initiative.

Beneficiaries of the Daren Sammy Foundation must be citizens of Saint Lucia aged 9 - 18; must be enrolled in primary or secondary school; must be athletes who are part of a school team, physical education class, or a community league team; must be a student from a low income family; must show continuous academic improvement; and must participate in at least one extracurricular activity at school or within the community.
