The fundraiser will provide assistance to the students of the Commonwealth of Dominica.
The Ministry of Education, Human Resource Development and Labour has implemented an initiative called the "Good Deed-a-thon."
Marcus Edward, Chief Education Officer at the Ministry of Education said the purpose of the initiative is to provide assistance to the students of the Commonwealth of Dominica.
“We are asking children, teachers and principals to each donate one dollar to support the children of Dominica," Edward explained. "The Ministry of Education through its contacts at the Ministry of Education in Dominica will make the funds available and those funds will be used exclusively for the children of Dominica," he said.
Human Resource Officer within the Ministry of Human Resource Development and Labour, Shantal Wilson Lawrence, said it was important to aid to fellow Caribbean islands.
“Collaboratively this one dollar will go a long way in helping many families in Dominica," she said."We would like to encourage education officers to coordinate and oversee the initiative within their respective districts and we are asking everyone to come on board. It is a very important initiative , it could have been us who were suffering, so we are asking everyone to assist in the recovery efforts for the Dominican children."
The Good Deed-a-thon initiative commenced Sep. 7 and will end on Sep. 18. The island of Dominica recently experienced significant damage to its infrastructure due to Tropical Storm Erika.
