THE PROGRAM DELIVERED 15 INTERACTIVE EVENING SESSIONS IN MILLET, JACMEL, AND ANSE-LA-RAYE.

The Ministry of Equity, Social Justice and Empowerment, in collaboration with the Millet Development Committee, Jacmel Development Committee and Anse La Raye Parents in Action, has successfully concluded its Empower Parents – Parenting Program, held under the theme ‘Building Blocks for Progress-Your Child and You!’

Running from May 19 to June 18, 2025, the program delivered 15 highly interactive and engaging evening sessions (benefiting 50 parents) at the Millet Primary School, Roseau Combined School, and Anse la Raye Infant School. Designed to equip parents with practical tools for creating nurturing and supportive home environments, the initiative also sought to strengthen parent-teacher relationships, encourage accountability in parenting, and foster stronger community ties.

Topics included: Understanding Stages of Child Development; Domestic Abuse and Its Impact on Families; The Law, the Child, and the Importance of School Attendance; Financial Management in Low-Income Households; Creating Safe Spaces for Children and the Role of Parents in Education.

Facilitators included professionals from health, law enforcement, education, and social development sectors. At the heart of the program was the recognition that parenting in today’s social and economic climate requires not just love, but knowledge, support, and community collaboration. Many participants face daily struggles, including financial hardship, domestic instability, and social isolation, yet they showed up each evening eager to learn, grow, and support one another.

To ensure continued engagement, the Ministry has consented to award each parenting group a one-time grant of XCD1,500.00 to initiate a community-based project focused on improving family life. Come June 28, 2025, the Ministry of Equity will hold a Closing Ceremony for the parents of the program. During this event, parents will receive a certificate of participation, as well as a one-time grant to help kick-start their community project.

The Ministry of Equity, Social Justice and Empowerment reaffirms its commitment to strengthening families, empowering citizens, and building resilient communities across Saint Lucia.
