THE MINISTRY ALSO URGES INDIVIDUALS TO RESOLVE DISAGREEMENTS CALMLY AND PEACEFULLY.
As Saint Lucia prepares to celebrate the highly anticipated Parade of the Bands on Monday July 20 and Tuesday, July 21, the Ministry of Home Affairs is calling on all citizens, residents and visitors to enjoy the Carnival festivities in a spirit of peace, respect and national pride.
The Ministry, whose portfolio includes Conflict Resolution, Crime Prevention and Persons with Disabilities, joins the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force, government agencies, community organizations and citizens in encouraging everyone to celebrate responsibly while avoiding the abuse of substances, including alcohol. The Ministry also denounces the instigation of confrontations or any behaviour that could disrupt the enjoyment and safety of others.
Carnival is a time of unity, creativity and cultural expression. As thousands of revelers and spectators gather for the island's signature street parade, the Home Affairs Ministry reminds the public that large crowd events naturally reduce personal space. Greater patience, tolerance and mutual respect will therefore be essential in ensuring that all participants can safely enjoy the festivities.
The Ministry also urges individuals to resolve disagreements calmly and peacefully, recognizing that acts of courtesy and self-restraint contribute significantly to maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for everyone.
Also in the same vein, the Ministry emphasizes that every citizen plays a role in safeguarding the country's image. With tourism serving as the lifeblood of the national economy, it is important that our conduct reflects the warmth, hospitality and cultural pride for which Saint Lucia is internationally renowned.
Acting Permanent Secretary Mr. Ricky Quinlan remarked: “The Ministry further reminds the public that Carnival is for everyone. In keeping with its responsibility for matters relating to Persons with Disabilities, we appeal to all participants and spectators to exercise special care, courtesy and consideration for differently abled persons who also wish to experience and participate in the excitement and pageantry of the celebrations. Small acts of kindness, patience and assistance can help ensure that Carnival remains an inclusive celebration where every individual feels welcomed, respected and safe.”
The Ministry of Home Affairs remains committed to working collaboratively with the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force and all relevant stakeholders to promote a safe, peaceful and memorable Carnival.
The Ministry wishes the nation and all visitors a joyful, secure and incident-free Carnival 2026.
End.
