NEMO completes chainsaw training programme

PARTICIPANTS ARE NOW BETTER ABLE TO RESPOND TO EMERGENCIES AND NATURAL DISASTERS.
The National Emergency Management Organisation (NEMO) announced the successful conclusion of a one-week chainsaw management training program tailored for disaster-management purposes.
 
The training, facilitated by NEMO in collaboration with Global Support and Development (GSD), brought together 15 participants eager to bolster their skills in chainsaw operation to better respond to emergencies and natural disasters. . Throughout the week, participants received expert instruction from seasoned professionals with extensive experience in disaster response and land management.
 
The training curriculum encompassed a wide range of topics, including chainsaw safety protocols, emergency response procedures, tree felling techniques in hazardous conditions, and environmental considerations during disaster recovery efforts. The hands-on nature of the training allowed participants to develop practical skills in a controlled environment, ensuring they were well-prepared to navigate the challenges often encountered in disaster scenarios. Under the guidance of qualified instructors, participants gained confidence in their ability to safely and efficiently operate chainsaws to clear obstructed roads, remove fallen trees, and facilitate access for emergency services. The successful participants received certificates which are internationally recognized.
 
NEMO's commitment to safety was paramount throughout the training program, with strict adherence to safety standards and protocols endorsed by leading authorities in disaster management. Emphasis was placed on ensuring the well-being of participants, while equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed to respond effectively to emergencies.
 
NEMO Director, Kenisha Jeffrey-Isembert reiterated the value of such training opportunities in NEMO’s overall efforts at ensuring that Saint Lucia is prepared for any disaster eventuality which may confront our country.
