The Government of the United Kingdom has announced the appointment of Simon Mustard as the new non-resident British High Commissioner to Saint Lucia and the wider Eastern Caribbean network. Mr. Mustard officially presented his credentials during a ceremony in Castries on 24 July 2025.

High Commissioner Mustard, who is resident in Barbados, brings a wealth of diplomatic experience and a commitment to strengthening the UK’s relations in the Eastern Caribbean. “I am excited to be in Saint Lucia which I can already see is unique to some of the other islands I have been to in the region. Although this is a brief stay, I look forward to engaging with the local community and government. Building on our historical ties, I aim to work collaboratively on shared priorities such as climate resilience, economic growth, and regional security,” he stated.

During his visit, High Commissioner Mustard met with the Honourable Prime Minister, Philip J. Pierre, and the Castries team, including the Resident British Commissioner, Ms Amy Quantrill, to discuss ongoing cooperation and mutual interests. These discussions were focused on enhancing partnerships in areas such as sustainable development, security, and climate action.

A key highlight of the visit was a trip to the Millennium Highway Road, a UK-funded project that aims to improve infrastructure and connectivity in the region. Mr. Mustard observed the important developments associated with this project and was pleased to see much of the progress. The road underscores the UK’s commitment to supporting climate-resilient infrastructure and sustainable development initiatives in Saint Lucia.

In addition to his official engagements, High Commissioner Mustard connected with local stakeholders to better understand the unique challenges and opportunities facing Saint Lucia.

Mr. Mustard brings extensive diplomatic experience to his new role, having served in various capacities across Central America, Washington D.C., the Middle East, Africa, and London. He previously held the position of British High Commissioner to both Sierra Leone and Malawi and holds a degree in International Relations from the University of Aberdeen.

As High Commissioner, Mr. Mustard will continue to focus on advancing the UK’s regional priorities with the help of his team on the ground here in Saint Lucia.
