The facility now has 24-hour armed guards.
The Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Wellness, Human Services and Gender Relations, Elda Michel, announced today that security arrangements have been made to ensure the round-the-clock safety of staff and clients of the Dennery hospital.
"We now have 24-hour armed security," Michel said. "There are two 12-hour shifts: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and 7 p.m. to 7a.m.
"I also wish to say that we have received word that our staff and clients in particular are happy and very grateful for the intervention."
"The Ministry of Health wants to send a strong message to staff and clients of the facilities that their safety is of utmost importance," Michel added. "We will do all in our power to ensure that measures are put in place to keep them safe and secure once they are within the confines of any government-run health care facility."
